River clean up #213 l Sungai Keroh

by haramakers

Yesterday was a special one.

Five days ago, we received a lovely email from Charlotte from Johor Bahru. She shared that she hopes to start a similar initiative in her kampung and wondered if she could learn from our river clean-up.

After we replied, she immediately arranged a trip to Kuala Lumpur. No long planning, no waiting — just the determination to show up and learn.

There were no other participants scheduled this week, so yesterday it was just Charlotte and Bee, walking along the river, learning by doing.

Together we removed 34.52 kg of waste:

• Fabric: 16.5 kg
• Plastic: 13.01 kg
• Mixed waste: 4.3 kg
• Glass & Ceramic: 0.48 kg
• E-waste: 0.23 kg

Sometimes an initiative begins not with a big plan, but with a simple email, curiosity, and the courage to take the first step.

Along our journey, we’ve received many forms of support from kind souls who believed in the work before it became visible. And if what we’ve learned can be useful to other organisations or individuals, we are always happy to pass the kindness forward to the next person.

Because movements don’t grow from one group alone, thry grow when people decide to bring the idea home.
