Pos Malaysia × Hara Makers — Advancing Circular Economy Through Creative Reuse
At Hara Makers, we believe that sustainability is not just about reducing waste — it’s about rethinking how materials are used, valued, and extended within our communities.
This Global Recycling Day, we partnered with Pos Malaysia Berhad to transform event waste into meaningful products, demonstrating how responsible reuse and collaboration can create real environmental and social impact.
From Event Banners to Everyday Essentials
As part of the initiative, 150kg of banners and buntings from the Pos Malaysia Run 2025 were collected and repurposed into unique, upcycled pouches used as corporate gifts.
Rather than allowing these materials to become waste, the project focused on extending their life through thoughtful, small-batch production.
Each pouch carries traces of its original form — colours, textures, and prints — making every piece distinct while reflecting a story of transformation.
This is circular economy in action:
keeping materials in use longer, reducing the need for new resources, and minimising environmental impact.
Responsible Reuse, Real Impact
Event materials such as banners are often difficult to recycle due to mixed compositions. Through reuse and upcycling, this project provided a practical solution for managing these materials responsibly.
The initiative delivered impact across multiple levels:
Environmental Impact
- 150kg of material diverted from landfill
- Extended lifecycle of non-recyclable materials
- Reduced need for new production resources
Social Impact
- Income opportunities for women from PPR communities
- Skill development in sewing and upcycling
- Flexible, community-based work
Organisational Impact
- Tangible sustainability outcomes
- Meaningful ESG storytelling
- Responsible corporate gifting solutions
By aligning environmental action with community empowerment, the collaboration reflects a more inclusive and human-centred approach to sustainability.
Empowering Communities Through Craft
At the heart of this project are the women artisans from PPR communities who brought these products to life.
Through hands-on involvement in:
- cutting and preparing materials
- sewing and assembling pouches
- finishing and quality checking
they gained not only income, but also valuable skills and confidence.
These initiatives create pathways for dignified work, enabling communities to participate actively in the sustainability movement.
Because true impact is not just measured in waste reduced — but in lives supported and opportunities created.
A Meaningful Way to Celebrate Global Recycling Day
Global Recycling Day is often about awareness — but this collaboration turned awareness into action.
By choosing to upcycle event materials into corporate gifts, Pos Malaysia demonstrated how organisations can:
- take responsibility for their own waste
- integrate sustainability into everyday operations
- support community livelihoods
- contribute to a circular economy
It’s a reminder that sustainability doesn’t always require complex systems. Sometimes, it starts with rethinking what we already have.
Turning Waste into Value — Together
This partnership reflects what’s possible when organisations, communities, and social enterprises work together with intention.
By transforming waste into products with purpose, we create value that goes beyond materials — value for people, businesses, and the environment.
At Hara Makers, we continue to support organisations in turning waste into measurable social and environmental impact through upcycling, workshops, and community programmes.
Let’s Create Impact Together
If your organisation is exploring sustainable corporate gifts, event waste solutions, or circular economy initiatives, we’d love to collaborate.
