Turning Plastic Waste into Purpose with Maybank

by haramakers

Hara Makers was pleased to collaborate with Maybank and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam as part of Maybank’s 14th Group Global CR Day.

The initiative brought together more than 100 Maybank employees for a hands-on learning experience focused on plastic waste, recycling and upcycling.

Learning Through Action

During the session, participants took part in plastic waste segregation and hands-on upcycling activities.

Discarded materials were given another purpose by transforming them into useful items such as keychains, candles and other products.

For Hara Makers, these activities are not only about what happens to the plastic. They are also about helping people understand where waste comes from, how it can be managed differently and what role each of us can play.

Creating Opportunities for Communities

The programme also connected environmental action with community empowerment.

Through Hara Makers’ work, B40 women and community members can develop practical skills and participate in income-generating opportunities through upcycling. The collaboration is expected to benefit around 600 UiTM students and indirectly impact 176 households.

Small Actions, Shared Impact

Plastic waste is a complex challenge that requires more than one solution.

Through partnerships between businesses, universities, communities and social enterprises, we can create opportunities to learn, participate and take action.

At Hara Makers, we continue to Reimagine Plastic by turning sustainability education into practical experiences and creating opportunities for people along the way.

Together, we can turn plastic waste into purpose.
