Yesterday, 20 volunteers from Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) joined us at Sungai Keroh, not just to pick up trash, but to listen to what the river has been telling us all along.
From the shallows to the bends, we lifted:
21.28 kg of plastic
34.37 kg of fabric
1.8 kg of metal and aluminium
4.1 kg of glass and ceramic
2.2 kg of e-waste
24.8 kg of mixed waste
Each piece we pulled out was more than litter, it was a reflection of how easily convenience slips from our hands into nature’s bloodstream.
This programme isn’t about feeling good after doing something good.
It’s about learning to see differently, to notice what we use, what we throw, and what we choose to change in our daily lives.
The river doesn’t need heroes.
It needs people who pay attention.
